There is no greater reward in life than to bless someone in need
The Shorter-Harris Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that consists of volunteers who pledge to donate their time and resources to improve the quality of life of those in need. The foundation operates on donated articles of clothing and other items that are distributed to families across the globe.
The foundation is committed to promoting community development by focusing on the needs of families living in poverty. Through the process of collecting and distributing donations, the Shorter-Harris Foundation spreads goodwill through the generosity of others. Our mission includes providing the basic necessities to families that do not have the means to do so.
Focus on the Dominican Republic
Year-round foundation efforts involve gathering, sorting, and preparing donations for yearly trips. Additional goals include expanding the donation areas to include other countries in the Caribbean, which also suffer from the same effects of poverty, as well as expanding the labor of love to help those in need of local aid.
According to the 2005 Annual Report of the United Nations Subcommittee on Human Development in the Dominican Republic, the country is ranked #71 in the world for resource availability, #79 for human development, and #14 in the world for resource mismanagement. These statistics emphasize national government corruption, foreign economic interference in the country, and the rift between the rich and poor.
